Kejadian ini tak bisa dilepaskan dari penggundulan hutan di Maluku Utara demi tambang nikel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tambang-tambang itu menjadi penyuplai utama untuk kawasan hilirisasi nikel bernama Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP).
